Exercise Snacks

Super Bowl Sunday LVIII is here and that means most of America will be sitting more than usual today, watching all of the pre-game hype and festivities (my family included)! We’ll also likely be grazing on yummy appetizers and snacks throughout the day as we gather with friends and family.

If you haven’t heard that “Sitting is the new Smoking,” well now you have. No explanation is really needed here…It’s no secret that in our modern, comfort-seeking society, we are sitting WAY more than our ancestors ever thought about. We are designed to move…Frequently.

My challenge and encouragement to you as the excitement of the day unfolds is to take ‘Exercise Snack’ breaks throughout the day. Set an alarm for every 30-45 min, if that helps and pick any exercise/activity that you could perform for a predetermined number of reps (ex: 10 squats, 10 lunges) or amount of time (ex: plank x 1 min, walk x 5 min ). Switch it up to make it fun and consider implementing this strategy if you have a job where you are sitting most of the day!
